Montes Claros (MG)

Participant of the State of Minas Gerais in the Alpargatas Institute projects, Montes Claros started the partnership in 2013, at the same time as the Alpargatas plant was officially inaugurated in the city. It currently serves 52 schools through the Sports-based Education Program and 20 through the Culture-based Education Program, benefiting more than 18 thousand students in all.

At the same time, a strong team of 160 volunteers is engaged in significant work to renovate schools in the municipality.

Paraíba

João Pessoa (PB)

Professionals of the Alpargatas plant in the capital city of the State of Paraiba participate in the Corporate Volunteering Program. There are around 150 people who give away their time to doing good for other people.

Santa Rita (PB)

This municipality was one of the first to be involved in Alpargatas Institute’s projects back in 2003. The Sports-based Education Program started with only 18 schools and its success was repeated in other cities. It currently involves 45 schools and more than 16 thousand students.

On another front, a team of about 200 volunteers works on actions to improve the Santa Rita community, with rebuilding and improvements of schools and community spaces. The Taekwondo Project that serves 170 children and teenagers in the community is also developed by volunteers.

Mogeiro (PB)

The city of Mogeiro is involved in the Sports-based Education and Culture-based Education programs, involving 22 local schools (100% of the local schools) and serving 2,400 students.

The Corporate Volunteering Program is especially noteworthy. A team of around 200 volunteers makes real changes in the Mogeiro community.

Ingá (PB)

The municipality of Ingá, known in the hospitality industry for its “itacoatiaras” – which are ancient rock inscriptions – has been an Alpargatas Institute partner since 2010. It currently serves 22 schools through the Sports-based Education Program and 20 through the Culture-based Education Program, benefiting more than 2 thousand students.

The Corporate Volunteering Program is a highlight of the entire company. Active since 1999, the group has a team of 320 volunteers, which represents 100% of the factory. That’s right! All the factory employees are volunteers involved in actions to benefit the community.

Serra Redonda (PB)

The municipality of Serra Redonda, known in the region for its handicrafts, currently serves 15 local schools and around 860 students. All this has happened since 2010.

The Corporate Volunteering Program has a team of 150 volunteers involved in great actions to benefit the community.

Alagoa Nova (PB)

This municipality in the State of Paraíba backlands has had a partnership with the Alpargatas Institute since 2010. The Sports-based Education and Culture-based Education programs are active in 34 and 15 schools, respectively, benefiting more than 2,800 students.

Through more than 180 employees of the Alpargatas plant in the city, the Corporate Volunteering Program engages in volunteer work in the municipality and its surroundings.

Campina Grande (PB)

Also known as the Borborema Queen, the municipality of Campina Grande has a population of more than 400 thousand inhabitants, and has the highest number of schools served by Alpargatas Institute projects. The partnership began in 2005, with 5 schools, and today the municipality, known for its extensive school and university network, participates in the Sports-based Education Program with 100% of its local schools (119 schools and close to 25 thousand students).

All its local schools have also been involved in the Inclusive Capoeira project since 2007. This project complies with Federal Law No. 10.639/03 that makes it mandatory to teach African and Afro-Brazilian history and culture in elementary school. It has participated in the Culture-based Education Program, also present in 100% of the municipality’s local schools, since 2014.

Likewise, the municipality is involved in the Corporate Volunteering Program, with more than 700 employee volunteers and family members working in actions to benefit the community, and the Basic Electricity Course, developed by three volunteers of Alpargatas in the municipality, which has already graduated 5 classes and 103 professionals since 2013.

Queimadas (PB)

A partner since 2010, the municipality of Queimadas is involved in the Sports-based Education Program, currently active in 47 local schools and benefiting around 6,800 students. In addition to great educational results in the last Basic Education Development Index (IDEB), a highlight of student involvement in Physical Education classes in the municipality is the Scholastic Games (JERMEQ).

Guarabira (PB)

Also known as the Swamp Queen, the city of Guarabira has been a partner of the Alpargatas Institute since 2010. It currently serves 100% of the local schools in the city (29 schools), through the Sports-based Education and Culture-based Education programs, benefiting around 5,700 students.

Another program, Corporate Volunteering, also stands out. With a team of around 150 volunteers, major changes in school spaces have already taken place through volunteering in the municipality.

Bananeiras (PB)

Bananeiras is served by a partnership between the Alpargatas Institute and the Nossa Senhora do Carmo School, at the Sítio Monte Carmelo. The Sports-based Education Program serves around 300 students.

Pernambuco

Carpina (PE)

A partner of the Institute since 2008, the municipality of Carpina is located in the Forest Zone of the State of Pernambuco and is the only city in the state served by the Alpargatas Institute projects. It participates in the Sports-based Education Program and the Culture-based Education Program with 100% of its local schools (20 schools), which involves 7,900 students.

It has a group of around 120 volunteers engaged in work to help the community through the Corporate Volunteering Program.

São Paulo (SP)

The Corporate Volunteering Program has been engaged in truly transformational actions with volunteers from the Alpargatas headquarters. Many employees spend their time improving the lives of people who need help, and close to 150 employees participate annually in the Alpa Good Deed Day project. Solidarity is part of the DNA of everybody in Alpa.
